Police in England and Wales not prepared for honour based violence

Police in England and Wales not prepared for honour based violence

08 December 2015

The BBC reports that Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) has found that only 3 of 43 police forces in England and Wales are fully prepared to combat so called honour based violence incidents.

Honour based violence refers to crimes committed in order to protect the honour of the family or the community, and can involve anything from dictating what someone (often a son or daughter) will wear, to who they associate with and; in extreme cases, can lead to murder. It is a problem that the police in every force in England and Wales should have been receiving training in for several years now, and one that every force should take active steps to combat. It is sad to see that so many forces are possibly failing potential victims and we can only hope that the situation improves following the report by HMIC. Here at Zakon Training we have staff who have been trained to deliver sessions on honour based violence and we are able to help you and your organisation if you need any further help or information on the subject.
