Too few slavery victims being identified in the UK

Too few slavery victims being identified in the UK

03 December 2015

According to the Anti-Slavery Commissioner, Kevin Hyland, too few victims of slavery are being identified and helped by the authorities in the UK.

Describing the situation as "morally unacceptable" the Commissioner says that far too few people are being prosecuted for offences related to modern slavery, and that the victims are receiving an inappropriate response. He has challenged the assertion that modern slavery is a hidden crime and that he is "determined to ensure that the mechanisms used to identify, track, record and investigate crimes are watertight so that cases do not slip through the gaps". If you or your company need any help to ensure you do not contribute to this issue, and that you become part of the cure, we are able to offer help and advice on how to meet your obligations, and have training packages to educate your staff.
