Zakon Training were privileged to be invited by the Association of Sign Language Interpreters (ALSI) to run an Interpreting Police Interviews Workshop at the Wesley Methodist Church, Christ’s Pieces, Cambridge.
Delegates received an input on legislation and the unique terminology that these investigations present. The content covered interpreter specific guidance and legislation with witnesses and suspects of crime. The content also covered special measures, custody issues and specific interview methodologies, delivered through a mixture of trainer led input, discussion, and practical exercises. Resources were sent out following the event so as delegates could continue their learning journey and we were delighted to hear several interpreters had already arranged to use our input as a springboard for continuing CPD.
Despite the range of differing experience within the room, the feedback was outstanding and the course leader, Simon Smith, commented “It was a fantastic day full of learning with a very keen group of interpreters, bearing in mind that this was a weekend, and many had travelled several miles, it really exemplified the professionalism within the profession and ASLI in particular.”

ASLI were established in 1987, to provide professional discussion on all issues related to sign language interpreting and the provision of interpreting services. From the beginning their aims have been simple: to encourage good practice in sign language interpreting and to support fellow professionals. As a result, they asked us to provide professional development for their members on this exceptionally important topic.
