We are pleased to support Lauren Wilson from Derby University in her Phd research into the work of interpreters.
Lauren is conducting what is believed to be the first research of its kind into the work of interpreters who work with the police during interviews. Much research has been conducted into the affects of the use of interpreters on the interviewees, but little work has been done on how the interview should be tailored to meet the needs of the interpreter.
Lauren's research is aimed at discovering what adjustments or accommodations should be made to assist the interpreter, and also on what emotional affects various interviews might have on the interpreter and how to manage this.
We strongly encourage any interpreter who has not already done so to complete an online survey for Lauren here. We in Zakon Training believe research such as this is essential to ensure that interpreters are being given the proper support they need to carry out their role, and to help ensure that police interviews are conducted in as fair and ethical a manner as possible, regardless of any language barriers encountered.
